The Insignia NS-CNV43 comes with a USB cable.  I understand that this can be used for charging the battery.  When I connected the cable, Windows shows a new "Mobile" device but there is no way to access it.

There is a "USB to Serial Modem" installed as well, and via the modem properties I can successfully query the modem.  So, it appears that the PC is "talking to" the device.

How does one access the GPS unit via the PC...or is that functionality not available to the public?

Best regards,

I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

It doesn't look like it is possible to do that without special drivers or a special program that knows exactly what it's looking at.
I don't know what chipset that device uses, so I don't know what would be the most likely to work.

I'm not sure what accessing the data on the device would do for you though. The sd card is meant to hold everything you would need to access. The device itself just holds the system programs, and cached maps.

Hi, Jax.

Thanks for the reply.  My thought was to access the micro SD card via the GPS unit (it doesn't come with an SD adapter).  Also, I was curious to see what might be stored in the unit itself.

As we agreed, I guess the ability to access it via USB is limited to the Geek Squad or whomever might need to service the unit.  Perhaps they use proprietary software...

Thanks,
