Hello,
I purchased the Insignia NS-CNV20 GPS and can't get the Google search to work. The system status says the wireless modem is not connected and the connected services are disabled. This gps is sold at Best Buy and no one there can help me. Does anyone know how to get this thing to work or do I need to return it? Help please.

I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I don't have their gps, but it sounds like it needs a wireless connection for the google search. Do you have a wireless router or some place you can go that has wireless to connect to with the device and try it out?
P.S. Sorry I've been absent from the forums lately. I've been out of town with little internet access.

No, the gps connects through a cellular network and has a sim card inside to connect to google search for POIs, traffic information, GasBuddy gas prices, etc. I have been having major issues as well. The modem did not work when I first took it out of the box, and then it started working miraculously. Then today the modem will not connect at all. I have tried pulling and reseating the sim card time and time again with no luck. The sim card shows to be reading, but the modem is not getting a signal from the cell network for some reason. Geek Squad is supposed to provide assistance, map updates, etc for the first year. I will be taking it to them. If Best Buy can't help you, they will need to replace the unit for you before the return period is up! Geek Squad is supposed to know what to do with it though, it is their brand!

Thanks for the links. I did think of this yesterday hoping it would solve my problem and did download the latest firmware update (v1.3). SO far no luck, the cell signal icon still has a line drawn through it and no bars. I guess I will have to take it back to BestBuy to see what can be done with it. When it worked, it worked beautifully. I will probably try to replace and reload the firmware update again as the first time I turned the unit on it froze during the initialization process and I had to power it off before it officially said it was completed. I guess something could have not completed in the reloading, although it seems to be working and shows to be updated with the latest version in the info screen. I know from experience with my HP iPaq that Windows CE is not the most stable OS, so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised to be having problems.

Sorry to hear that didn't work. A lot of mobile devices seem to use Windows CE, despite it's flaws and the cheaper alternatives out there. Oh well.
Do let us know how the return goes though, and if they have anything to say.

I called tech support on the phone in the off shot that they may know something. They simply instructed me to do what we already tried. Reseat the sim card, reseat the SD card, suggested firmware update. Once I went ahead and told him all I tried, he simply stated it was a defective unit and take it back to the store. I had a little trouble at the store due to being a Bestbuy.com order I picked up at the store. The CSM just reversed my online transaction, putting credits back on 2 Christmas gift cards that had long since gone in the trash. After they rectified all of these problems, I did walk out of the store with a brand new unit that worked flawlessly. It came with v1.2 firmware, so it was obviously not mfr in the same batch as the last unit, even though it was from the same store. I just completed the update to v1.3 and the modem still works perfectly after over a week of use. I am thinking there was a bad lot released since so many people had this problem. The tech support guy seemed to state that the signal is supposed to be available all over the country, so when I couldn't get a signal in Tulsa, OK, he knew there was a major problem. I recommend anyone with connection problems get your unit serviced under warranty before the year is up! It's not supposed to have weak or spotty connection! Like I said before, when it works, it works flawlessly. Good luck!
