Any information of how to delete files on this device with PC?  Have tried with XP and Vista and message of write protected file keeps coming up.  I have done what has worked for me in past with USB drives as far as write protect goes but does not help with this device.

As of now, only way to delete files on device is manually do it on the device itself as opposed to using PC.

When songs ar moved to device through PC, they are marked as Read-Only - is there way maybe not to have this happen?

Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated, thanks for time.

I'm sorry Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

Not sure why this is happening. Have you tried right-clicking files and/or folders that this is happening to and going to the Securities tab? From there you can change the permissions/owners on both XP and Vista I believe. For Vista you have to click Advanced.

Hopefully you can change that for the folders this is happening to and it will apply it to all subfolders and files in the future.

Thank you for reply.

In XP, when right click and go to properties, it is listed as Read-Only and the checkmark box is greyed out.

Vista, same scenario.

There is a registry edit for XP that I have used in past that worked on other USB drives I had similar issue with.
Quote
2)Type regedit and hit enter.

4)Click on the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

5)Click on the plus sign next to SYSTEM

6)Click on the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet

7)Click on the plus sign next to Control

8)Click on the plus sign next to StorageDevicePolicies

9)Write click on WriteProtect and click modify.

10)If the value data is 1 change it 0 and click ok.

11)Repeat steps 7 to 10 for ControlSet001 and ControlSet002 .

12)Close Registry editor and restart the computer.

But that did not work either, So I changed everything back to where it was before making any changes.

If any ideas or thoughts come up, would give it a go.

I went through some of the files and it seems that some are wrrite protected and some are not (which can be deleted)  Must just be on my end with the properties before they were copied to device.

Again, thanks for reply.  I should have it from here.

Just suggestion to others that may run into this, just check properties before copying over to device.

If info that comes up that I can add to this, I will.

I have this problem after copying some MP3s from a CD.  They seem to have inherited the read-only property of the CD files and I cannot get rid of them using the PC link.

To get rid of them I suspect I will have to delete all files using the player and reinstate the ones I want - deleting over 100 individual files using the player is simply too time consuming.

To set, view, change, or remove special permissions for files and folders:
  • Click Start, click My Computer, and then locate the file or folder where you want to set special permissions.
  • Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
  • Click Advanced, and then click the name of the group or user, and then click Edit.
  • In the Permissions box, click to select or click to clear the appropriate Allow or Deny check box.<br>
Give everyone at least read & write access.
  • In the Apply onto box, click the folders or subfolders where you want these permissions applied.

I would suggest making sure all the files on your computer have full access, and then just transfer over everything again to your mp3 player.
